Which countries server is best for WordPress hosting?

The best country for your server depends on where your audience (those viewing your website) are. The closer the physical location to the audience the faster your page load speed will be and the better user experience your users will have.

How do I choose a hosting provider by location?

You can choose your hosting location based on where the readers or viewers of your website are geographically speaking. If they are worldwide then you will most likely want a host with North American based servers however, if you are in Europe its often a good idea to get a server located somewhere in the Europe roughly speaking.

If you were in another part of the world you would look for a hosting company which had servers near to your location. It doesn’t have to be exact but if you’re in New Zealand and your audience is also it doesn’t make a lot of sense to have your servers in North America or Europe. You’d look for a host who has servers in Singapore, Australia or New Zealand itself.

PROTIP: It’s also common to use a CDN to offset any particular issues you might have in matching your server location to your readers location. A CDN keeps copies of your website in other parts of the world so as to mimic the speed advantage that they would get by having a server location physically close to them. In this way you could have your readers or users mainly New Zealand, have a physical server location in North America and have CDN which has yet another ‘relay server’ in Australia (with a copy of your site on it) so a reader in New Zealand could access the site from the Australian server and hence not have to wait slightly longer compared to getting the website from the North American server.

Does server location matter for web hosting?

The server location does matter in web hosting in that you can provide a faster page load to the users on your website if you have a server location which is close to them geographically. This is because the physical distance with which the infrastructure of the internet would need to send the website data to the users phone or laptop (whichever they are viewing the site from) would be smaller and hence faster to be sent. This would have flow on effects for how fast the page actually loaded for your user and because page speed is such a large factor in retention of users and general usability (especially at mobile on bad 3G of 4G connections like when you’re driving).

What are the three types of WordPress hosting?

The three types of hosting a shared, dedicated and VPS or Cloud.

What is the most basic type of web hosting?

The most basic type of hosting is shared hosting and most people will start here with no issues. If you had a particularly large website or you were advanced user or you wanted to host many many websites (ie maybe you’re an agency or developer or looking to start a hosting company) then you could look into either dedicated or VPS/Cloud hosting. The later is less expensive but gives you the benefit of having a lot of control over your server set up. In the past if you wanted a lot of control over your server set up you probably would have got a dedicated server but now VPS/Cloud hosting is available it can also provide high levels of customization while keeping the costs down.

PROTIP: VPS and Cloud hosting are very similar except the Cloud hosting has less downtime owing to its ability to ‘substitute’ software components on the fly whereas with VPS you can still have outages (ie site is inaccessible) in the 0.1% range. Cloud would be 100% uptime more likely.

Which hosting plan is cheapest?

The cheapest web hosting is from Hostinger which is as low as $1.99 p/month (for first 48 months) and after that renews at $3.99. This is a shared web hosting account but Hostinger has a few different plans all at cheap rates.

Is it cheaper to host your own website?

It is cheaper to host your own website on your own computer however this would not give a very good performance. Third Party hosting, like mentioned above, is so affordable these days at less than $5 p/month that you might as well pay this small amount and get a faster server that has better ability to provide a good user experience (ie page load time) to your users.

Is Google hosting services free?

Google web hosting is free but you need to pay in order to have a custom website domain. If you didn’t you would have a sub-domain of google as your site. This might look something like yoursite.google.com as opposed to yoursite.com if you were to pay for the domain and some third party hosting. Third party hosting is cheap these days at less than $5 p/month so is quite accessible to many people.

What is a good price for hosting?

Less than $5 p/month is a very very good price for a shared hosting plan although depending on your particular needs you may want to pay more in order to gain more resources in the case you have a large readership or want to host many websites.
