Best WordPress Themes for Developers and CMS Users (simple, white space)

Developers often need a simple and lightweight themes to start their projects with. Here are a few I’ve used and that other devs have found useful,

  • Sintra
  • Intuitive

Sintra (free)

Sintra (theme download here) is a very clean and simple theme with a Web App feel. I use it for blogging but it could equally be used for anything. Preview Here. This theme is perfect for developers wanting to use as a base for their next project.

If you need to know how to customize a theme you can read here on my other post about customizing WordPress which also describes how to create a child theme which is best practice in WordPress for altering a theme.

Speed:

When I test it on tools.pingdom.com its very small in download size, loads in less than 1second on laptop and gets a 91 out of 100. Results below. This shows how lightweight it is.

Intuitive (free and paid versions)

Intuitive is a nice theme also with a little more design elements to play with to create a simple but ‘design effective’ site. I especially liked the panels type display of the posts on the home page and display of the search results but they have other HTML structures which you can easily utilize in your designs.

If you need to know how to customize a theme you can read here on my other post about customizing WordPress which also describes how to create a child theme which is best practice in WordPress for altering a theme.

You can view the theme download here and the demo here.

Speed:

Intuitive (the free version) loads in 1.18 seconds and gets a76 out of 100 for performance on tools.pingdom.com site speed analysis.
