There are several reasons why you may want to upgrade from a shared server to a dedicated server including,
- When you get to 80,000 page views per month on a shared server you may have too many users on there at any one time to have them all load a page really fast. You could see some slow downs in page speed due to server overload at around this level.
- If you want super specific requirements or desire to control very minute setting on the server in order to execute your site then you may want the increased control offered by a dedicated server.
- More than likely you will be or have developer(s) in your team who can administer the server.
- If your site has a lower amount of page views than 80,000 per month but the pages allow users to do a significant amount of processing. For example, if you have a lot of users calculating sales reporting over time on a specific page or some other kind of reporting feature which is used daily or often then you might want the increased computer resources of a dedicated server.
If you don’t have any of the points above going on then its unlikely you need dedicated server space but if you do we built a ‘WordPress Host Plan’ Selector tool which allows you to easily sift through the various hosting plans offered by the various companies.
